The steel of the knives uses Yasuki white steel for easy sharpening and a great edge. White steel is a high quality metal that has had more impurities removed.
In order to draw out the amazing qualities of the steel, we eschew the machine-based press production method of standard Western knives and instead use a direct hammering and forging process.
Veteran craftsmen work by hand to forge, temper, and sharpen the blades in an approach that produces a very different level of quality.
Wood of the deciduous tall Magnoliaceae tree that is grown in forests around Japan is used to craft the handle. Being light and soft, this type of wood can be processed very easily. Besides being used to produce knife handles and sheath, Magnoliaceae wood is also widely used as a material for sculpture, lacquerware, furniture, musical instrument and more.
